SA Where do you currently live? Why do you live there?
DS Port Orchard Washington. I came here in the nineties from California. Loved it and decided to stay.
SA What or who inspired you to ride a motorcycle?
DS X boyfriend. Got tired of looking at his bike in the garage while he was at work and wanted to ride. At age 40 he bought me my own and I fell in love with it. Have been riding ever since.
SA What bike(s) do you own?
DS 2001 Road King and 2015 BMW GS 800
SA Are you part of a women’s riding group? If so, which one(s)?
DS No. But I did my first IFRD to Cannon Beach. My first time to just go without knowing anybody. It was a great experience. Seeing so many other women with the same passion I have.
SA Where is your favorite ride and why? I’ve been all over the PNW and Canada.
DS It’s hard to say what my favorite one is. I’m just happy to get out riding. I do love Canada for its amazing scenery and epic rides.
SA Why do you ride or want to ride on 2-wheels?
DS I ride because I can’t not ride. It’s very hard to explain unless it’s something you also enjoy. I’ve been through so many changes and heartache and tough times. And having my bike had been the one thing that had kept me grounded and happy.
SA Have you always been drive to explore adventurous activities?
DS I’m just now getting into adventure riding. My world has opened up so much more. I have always had an adventure spirit but I just didn’t know it until I met my current love. He has shown me that getting off road is such a new way to experience the ride. I’m challenging myself and getting to know what I’m capable of. It’s really opened up something within me.
SA What would you like to see more of when it comes to the women’s riding world?
DS I’ve been following women who ride solo and that really inspires me. I just want other women to know that they can do anything and riding 2 wheels can open your mind and give you confidence. So women supporting other women is something that I think is always needed.
SA What gets you out of bed in the morning?
DS Well I’m a morning person so when the sun is up I’m up. I love the potential a new day brings. It’s all up to you on how you spend it.
SA If you could ride anywhere next year, where would it be and why?
DS Ecuador. I want to eventually travel to the tip of South America. But would love to just dip my toes in. Freedom bike rentals is something I’ve been looking at for about a year now. It’s something that I feel is doable for me.
SA What was your worse day on a motorcycle?
DS Riding to Sturgis a few years ago with a few girlfriends. The sky’s opened up and it poured like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my 10years of riding at the time. I honestly though I was going to die. I couldn’t see the bike in front of me. We pulled over for a while but it wasn’t letting up. So we rode on. When we got to the hotel I just thought wow we made it. What a ride.
SA What is your favorite food? I love pancakes.
DS Every since I was a kid. So whenever I want to treat myself I find a place that has good pancakes. It makes my day very happy.
SA What age did you learn to ride a motorcycle?
DS I learned at age 40.
SA Funniest thing that ever happened to you while on a ride?
DS I was behind my boyfriend friend when he hit a deer. Ok that’s not funny but the way he just kicked it out of the way and kept going was amazing. I of course stopped to see if the poor thing was ok. We both laughed later at my reaction.
SA Favorite post ride beverage? Summer it’s an ice cold beer.
DS Nothing like finishing up a long ride and sitting outside to enjoy a gold one.
SA Name 3 immediate things you would like to accomplish in the world of riding.
DS U-turn. It’s been my nemesis. Get better on gravel and hills. Take a dual sport course.
SA Name 3 long term things you would like to accomplish in the world of riding.
DS Solo ride and camp for at least a week. Ride down to South America with my love. And travel more.
