SA Where do you currently live? Why do you live there?
KM I live in Poulsbo, Washington. I live here with my family and will until my daughter graduates high school in 2025.
SA What or who inspired you to ride a motorcycle?
KM My husband bought me a Ninja 250 in 2001 as an engagement present. He said I was a terrible passenger, so I dared him to get me a bike. Sixteen years and seven or so bikes later I am on an adventure bike. We have traveled multiple directions from our home over the years, but our best trip was June 2015. I convinced my husband that we needed adventure bikes for a road trip to Alaska. He picked up a Super T and I got a V-Strom in October of 2014. We purchased travel items and planned the trip for June 2015. We took a ferry from Bellingham to Haines Alaska. It was 3,700 miles to get home. Lots of dirt roads including the Old Denali Hwy – 117 miles of gravel. We visited the town of Chicken and came over the Top of the World Pass. There was so much of Alaska we didn’t see and can’t wait to go back.
SA What bike(s) do you own?
KM 2012 V-strom and Yamaha 125 dirt bike. I have owned a Honda F4i, Suzuki Maurader, Ducati ST3, Triumph Sprint and a couple others.
SA Are you part of a women’s riding group? If so, which one(s)?
KM I have done one ride with the Rainer Ravens, but hope to do more.
SA Where is your favorite ride and why?
KM Alaska was my favorite, but I just love the open road, blue sky and mountains
SA Why do you ride or want to ride on 2-wheels?
KM It is the best way to just go and experience the beauty of our country and avoid the distractions on my phone.
SA Have you always been drive to explore adventurous activities?
KM Yes and I am looking forward to retirement. I want to go EVERYWHERE! No boundaries and no limits.
SA What would you like to see more of when it comes to the women’s riding world?
KM Gear that makes sense. I love my Klim gear, but light gray…really??
SA What gets you out of bed in the morning?
KM I’ve never thought about it. I just get up, sleep is a waste of a day. That’s why I can’t stay up past 10 pm. I get totally worn out.
SA If you could ride anywhere next year, where would it be and why?
KM I have always been limited by time off and I miss my kiddo if I go for more than 10 days. I would love to fly to Alaska and explore it with husband, kiddo, and grandma. I would rent an RV and have Grandma drive while we rode. I would map her to different RV parks and explore some of the dirt while she stayed to safety of paved roads. I would like to see the entire state.
SA What was your worse day on a motorcycle?
KM I should say the thunder, lightening, and hail storm in Alaska, but it was so beautiful I can’t complain. I have never seen lightening so big in my life. I would says the 500+ miles days when the temperatures hit 96 degrees are the worst days.
SA What is your favorite food?
KM I love pizza and leftover pizza wrapped in foil for a road trip is perfect for eating in the middle of nowhere.
SA What age did you learn to ride a motorcycle?
KM I have been a fan of two wheels (I have had more bicycles than motorcycles) for as long as I can remember, but the Ninja 250 from my hubby was my first at the age of 29.
SA Funniest thing that ever happened to you while on a ride?
KM While learning to ride I got confused to as which was the brake verses clutch. I was heading for a ditch at low speed and just jumped clear of bike before going in brush filled ditch. I learned how to dismount fast because of all my mountain bike experience. I was laughing hysterically and did get hurt. The bike was fun too. My soon to be husband just shook his head. It worked and I learned how to stop without jumping off the bike in the future.
SA Favorite post ride beverage?
KM Strawberry Lemonade
