MT I’m from Taiwan. Came to US 7 years ago. Currently stay and work in New York City.
SA What bike(s) do you own?
MT 06 BMW F650GS
SA Where is your favorite ride and why?
MT If I have to pick one, I would say some single trails in Pine Barrens NJ. Lots of fun and beautiful scenery along the road. But in general, as long as I’m riding with the people I trust, it’s already a fun ride guarantee!
SA What or who inspired you to ride a motorcycle?
MT 17 years scooter riding experience in Taiwan gets me comfortable enough to jump up to bigger bike for bigger land! And of course, the Long Way Round / Long Way Down series.
SA Are you a part of a women’s riding group? If so, which one(s)?
MT I’ve been riding with some groups in NY area (Citibeemers, GS riders of Bergen County, GS riders of BMW Manhattan) but non of them are female only. However, I get to know a few outstanding female riders through them. There’s no formal women riding group currently but we girls get to ride together from time to time.
SA Why do you ride or want to ride on 2-wheels?
MT Controlling my own mobility gets me the sense of freedom. Riding also force me to leave my troubles behind, only focusing on the road/trail ahead and the wheels beneath, and get to embrace the world unfolding around me.
SA Have you always been driven to explore adventurous activities?
MT Usually my inner conscious tends to say no to everything that might put me in danger. But we don’t communicate well… That explains why I have motorcycle, scuba diving, and snowboarding gears at home….
SA What would you like to see more of when it comes to the women’s riding world?
MT More riding gears for women, riding technique for smaller frame women. Trail-side repair skills including how to pick up the bike that’s way heavier than you when traveling alone.
SA What gets you out of bed in the morning?
MT The urge to see the world and the people whom I’m comfortable to ride with.
SA If you could ride anywhere next year, where would it be and why?
MT I aimed to visit Newfoundland/Nova Scotia this year. Next year’s goal would be NY-Alaska. I haven’t done the cross country trip and I think it’s about time!
SA What was your worst day on a motorcycle?
MT Try to keep up with a group of people who got bigger engine on paved roads. That leads me no choice but to ignore all the beautiful scenery around.
SA Favorite motorcycle book?
MT Oops. Not really a big book reader. Does the maps collection counts?
SA Have you ridden internationally? If so, where?
MT Yes. I rent a bike from south UK (Bournemouth) and ride up to the north end of Scotland (Durness) 2014. It’s my first solo international motorcycle trip. Hope there’ll be more in the future.
SA Favorite food?
MT Japanese rice. Or whatever it comes up along the road!
SA What age did you learn to ride a motorcycle?
SA Favorite post-ride beverage?
MT Hot/warm day: Beers. Cold day: Single malt on the rocks.
SA Funniest thing that ever happened to you while on a ride?
MT Second day on PB500 2015, I ran into a deep send session and the front wheel starts acting crazy. I was prepared to crash but the bike kept going. I end up riding from the right side of the lane to the left side, jump onto the side wall, went into bushes, and then came back down to the left side lane, crossed crowned sand and back to right side of the lane. Luckily the bike and I hold up fine, but not so much to the guys behind me. They told me they got scared watching all the “free styles” I did, and end up falling one after another.
