SA Where do you currently live? Why do you live there?
MW I split my time between Shoreline, WA, and Wenatchee, WA. Why? We have family in eastern WA and enjoy all of the outdoor recreational opportunities there, including the intersection of the WABDR just up the road! I also own Wenatchee Powersports, so that’s a pretty good reason to live in the Wenatchee area, too.
SA What or who inspired you to ride a motorcycle?
MW I’ve wanted to ride two wheeled motorized vehicles since I saw my first moped back in the 1970s. My mom wouldn’t let me get a moped, but as soon as I moved to college I purchased my first bike, an orange Honda Hawk CBR 400, sight unseen. I’ve owned several different models over the years since. I rode street and loved touring for years, but often found myself in places my street bikes shouldn’t have been. Like down rutty forest roads and deep gravel roads. Those experiences led me to dual sport riding, which I’ve been doing for many years.
SA What bike(s) do you own?
MW Currently own BMW F700GS and KTM 250 XCF-W. Also a little Yamaha XT 250.
SA Are you part of a women’s riding group? If so, which one(s)?
MW I’ve ridden with SheADV and other informal women’s groups.
SA Where is your favorite ride and why?
MW Do I have to pick one? When it comes to dirt I love riding in my back yard in Washington’s Cascades. I’ve toured all over the West on the road, and I’d have to say that riding through the Colorado Rockies was one of my most memorable, but I loved Southern Utah too. Closer to home, I absolutely love riding over Highway 20 through the North Cascades and try to do it at least once every year.
SA Why do you ride or want to ride on 2-wheels?
MW Freedom! Feast for the senses! I feel like I get a closer, more intimate experience of the geography and location when I’m on my bike, feeling the wind, the temperature, and smelling the air.
SA Have you always been drive to explore adventurous activities?
MW Kind of, but I’m getting to be more of a scaredy-cat as I get older. I’ve worked summers in Alaska fish canneries, I am attracted to flying and would love to learn paragliding!
SA What would you like to see more of when it comes to the women’s riding world?
MW I love that SHE ADV runs organized tours and training. Really any chance to get the lady riders together to ride, share stories and food is welcome!
SA What gets you out of bed in the morning?
MW The thought that it’s another day that has the potential to be a great one. Of course, going riding gets me up faster than going to work!
SA If you could ride anywhere next year, where would it be and why?
MW I would love to ride down to the tip of South America. It would be awesome to see the continent and eat great food along the way!
SA Do you personally operate or work at a women owned/operated moto related website, blog or business that you would like to tell folks about?
MW No, but I do own Wenatchee Powersports. We would love to cater more to women riders but there don’t seem to be that many over here which makes it difficult. Would love to host a ride or any women groups riding the WABDR or doing other rides.
SA What was your worse day on a motorcycle?
MW I haven’t had many bad days on a motorcycle, but there was a day when I got a flat tire out of cell phone range and had to hitch hike to get some tire goo. That was an adventure. A really bad day was when we witnessed one of our riding companions get in an accident and had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Thankfully it wasn’t me and she healed ok, but not a great day.
SA What is your favorite food?
MW Spaghetti and meatballs!
SA What age did you learn to ride a motorcycle?
MW Probably around 15, but I didn’t really learn until I was around 20.
SA Favorite post ride beverage?
MW Cold beer or a refreshing fruity tea.
SA Name 3 immediate things you would like to accomplish in the world of riding.

SA Name 3 long term things you would like to accomplish in the world of riding.
