SA Where do you currently live? Why do you live there?
SA I live in Apple Valley, CA. A smallish desert town which is about 2 hours northeast of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Barstow. Most people pass through Victorville on their way to Vegas. Apple Valley is my hometown and I’ve learned to love the desert! This location is close to Big Bear, Los Angeles, beaches, and Death Valley!
SA What or who inspired you to ride a motorcycle?
SA My friend Ely inspired me. He bought a bmw 800 and off we went two-up through Death Valley’s Titus Canyon, Cerro Gordo Ghost Town, and all through Owens Valley. He urged me to get my own and now I can’t imagine riding two-up on long trips.
SA What bike(s) do you own?
SA I own a BMW G650GS
SA Are you part of a women’s riding group? If so, which one(s)?
SA No, not yet.
SA Where is your favorite ride and why?
SA I love riding anything really. It’s all still such a big learning experience.
SA Why do you ride or want to ride on 2-wheels?
SA It’s always an adventure! And the way people treat you as you’re traveling is totally different than being a tourist in a car.
SA Have you always been drive to explore adventurous activities?
SA Somewhat. Once I started mountain biking in 2009 I think it helped me to become braver.
SA What would you like to see more of when it comes to the women’s riding world?
SA More women’s riding gear! I have some Klim gear and although it’s great, I find it a little bulky and restricting! I’d love to see more selection on the market.
SA What gets you out of bed in the morning?
SA There are times when I struggle with anxiety and depression, but I don’t let it rule me. I’m up and at’em! I get my butt to the gym because a healthy body and healthy mind go hand in hand! Getting a good workout in, whether it’s a mountain bike ride or a weights session helps with endorphins and keeps you strong for the big bikes!
SA If you could ride anywhere next year, where would it be and why?
SA I’d love to do a Southwest Tour! I have a heart for deserts and the West.
SA What was your worse day on a motorcycle?
SA Is there such a thing? Even the days that are challenging I end up being thankful for because I step away from it learning something. However…. When my friend took me on my first real adv ride I faced a few days when I was ready to throw in the towel and set up camp. One of those days we were headed to Ibex Spring to camp for the night and the road to get there was long and SANDY! Needless to say I never had any experience riding in sand and I was all over the place! I ended up dropping the bike and upon doing so, my gas cap, that I for sure thought was totally closed the last time I filled up, came flying open (this is all happening in slo-mo) and gas is pouring out into the sands of the Mojave Desert! I panic. I try to pick the bike up while fuel is *still* spilling out, all the while in my mind all I could think of was being stranded in the Mojave…no cell signal, we were for sure dead. My friend rushes over and tells me to cool it and simply closes the gas cap and calmly picks the bike up. I felt like a dork and learned the lesson of remaining calm. We eventually made it through sandy Ibex Spring Road and on to a gorgeous campsite. The next day we did Mengel Pass and Goler Wash in Death Valley National Park.
