VZ Women Adventure Riders, ADV Gals
SA Where is your favorite ride and why?
VZ Dirt roads of New England – I love to explore off the beaten path in the Northeastern U.S.
SA Why do you ride or want to ride on 2-wheels?
VZ Riding provides a great sense of peace and perspective and I love to explore and take on new adventures – D/S and adventure riding allows me to do this with a high level of efficiency.
SA Have you always been driven to explore adventurous activities?
VZ Yes, much to my parents dismay, I was a dare devil since childhood.
SA What would you like to see more of when it comes to the women’s riding world?
VZ I would love to see major motorcycle manufacturers make mid-displacement off-road dual-sport and ADV bikes that fit shorter female riders.
SA What gets you out of bed in the morning?
VZ Seeking out my next riding adventure, of course!
SA If you could ride anywhere next year, where would it be and why?
VZ Peru via dirt. Have always loved mountain riding and at 16,000 feet, it doesn’t get any better than riding the Andes.
SA Do you personally operate or work at a women-owned/operated moto related website, blog, or business that you’d like to tell us about? If so, what is it?
VZ I am the founder and organizer of Northeast Dualsport Riders. We’re over 100 strong and host over 50 events each year for members to enjoy in the Northeastern United States.
SA What was your worst day on a motorcycle?
VZ My worst day on a bike was leading a ride where a fellow female rider lost control of her bike and crashed into a guardrail at speed due to a mechanical failure of her motorcycle. She was badly injured, partially due to wearing insufficient riding gear.
SA Favorite food?
VZ Yikes – this is a hard one, as I love most all food as long as it is well prepared.
SA What age did you learn to ride a motorcycle?
VZ I learned to ride at 10 years old on a Rupp mini-bike!
SA Funniest thing that ever happened to you while on a ride?
VZ I was leading a ride along the rural dirt roads in the Catskills in NY and got the group lost. As I was turning around, I saw the whole group screaming and pointing to something behind me as they turned their bikes around quickly and high-tailed it out of there. Apparently there was a black bear right behind me and I didn’t even see it – LOL ; )
SA Favorite post-ride beverage?
VZ Water with Lemon – refreshing and good for me.
SA Name 3 immediate things you would like to accomplish in the world of riding.
VZ 1. Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 – scheduled for Mid-June 2016 2. Riding out to CO, UT, AZ from CT and back – 5500 miles – scheduled for August 2016 3. Starting my own off-road touring company in the Northeast – target start date – 2017.
SA Name 3 long-term things you would like to accomplish in the world of riding.
VZ 1. Touring European dirt road passes – all the scary ones before I turn 60 2. Becoming the first female owned and female friendly off-road touring business in the United States (including bikes with manageable seat heights.) 3. Ride with Lois Pryce – she’s my idol!!
